As an addendum: I wrote a while bunch about the use of ai for coaching/therapy and then deleted it because I just didn't feel like getting into it. It was more interesting in my head than it was written out. But I will just say I have been using it for these things just to understand the benefits and limitations, and this has helped me to be even less scared about my livelihood. It's a supplementary tool. That's my bottom line. I encourage my clients to use it for administrative and otherwise annoying tasks like creating milestones for projects and helping to outline goals. eh, I guess I do have more to say. perhaps for another post!

I love your 3 boundaries! I agree - and when my chatbot starts complimenting me too much I tell it to tone it down - the emotional posing is crazy. And I have occasionally gotten triggered by it “lying” to me which helped me firm up the boundaries. Nice piece!

omg thank you for sharing! getting triggered by it is always such an interesting experience, isn't it? Ripe for introspection. I get so angry at it when it makes a mistake in a recipe or something and I will go a few rounds of BRO WHAT ARE YOU DOING before I'm like wow this is really pointless hahaha

Yeah the first time I found myself really angry and arguing with my AI bot, my teenage son lobbed a snarky but helpful comment at me “Mom, you are in too deep.” I will keep that echoing in my head forever!! LOL

Thanks for this post. I'm deeply interested in the ways in which people use AI. It has all emerged so fast, and to me, feels like a technological and cultural revolution that will be as strange and difficult as it is impressive and interesting. Your post made me realize what opportunity this shift brings for us each to realize what makes us a unique human, and lean into that. It's incredibly exciting, but yes, indeed, freaky to ponder how transformative the next few years will be for society.

I’m so so glad!!! I realized I just talk to my husband about it all the time and should probably publish my thoughts!
